Origin of the name:

In Arabic dictionaries the word Golan has several meanings:
-In "Lisan al Arab" it means doing well in war, or
making a round of Fiqhting, or move around a certain place continuously. -In "al Tahtheeb": Golan is a village in the Levant (Bilad al Sham).
-In "al Mukhassas": Golan is a mountain in the Levant.
-In "al Muheet": Golan is the land where the wind agitates dust, pebbles and dry weeds; elementabundant in the Golan.
- In "al Munjid al Jaghraphy" (Geographic Guide) Golan is a plateau east of Jordan. It is called so
after the soil it has, and because many sessions of wars took place on its ground in different epochs of history.
The Romans called it Golanited .The word Golan was mentioned hundreds of times in pre Islamic Arab
poetry.
