Israeli looting Acts:
Israel destroyed towns and villages of the Golan and levelled them to the ground. Immediately after that it began a systematic campaign for looting the archeological treasures of Banias, Hamma, Fiq, el Al, Rajm Fiq Khasfin and other historical sites. Heavy bulldozers were used to destroy these sites regardless of their cultural or historical importance. Elite commanders of the Israeli army like Moshe Dayan and Yegal Yadin started excavating different sites even before the cease fire of 1967 war was officially recognized. When Syrian troops achieved victory in the October War 1973 under the leadership of president Hafez al Asad they realized that the Israelis had totally destroyed Quneitra and looted all the precious items in its historical buildings. Israeli soldiers looted the city in a barbarian way and then destroyed it deliberately house by house. Al Rafid was not saved. Buildings from the Roman-Byzantine period were destroyed. The Mosaic floors of the town’s church were stolen. After that the town was, also, levelled to the ground.
Ancient castles and fortifications were looted too. Since these sites are still under occupation no exact survey can be made to verify the atrocities committed against them by the Israelis. To embellish its image, Israel established a small museum in the occupied town of Kasrin where very few items were exhibited. The bulk of the Golan treasures were transferred to museums in Tel Aviv, Haifa and other cities inside Israel. Many items were lost and no body knows exactly their whereabouts now. Presumably they were smuggled and sold to European and U.S. antiquity dealers.
