Historical&\Archaeological Sites In The Golan
The Golan is rich with many historical and archaeological sites that belong to several consecutive periods in ancient history. In the 19th century and in the first half of the 20th century Golan attracted European explorers and many archaeologists. The most prominent of those explorers : -G. Schumacher
-U.J. Zeetetzen 1806 A.D. -J.L. Burckhardt 1810 A.D.(locally known as Sheikh Ibrahim). Those explorers recorded their impressions and discoveries and documented fixed and prominent antiquities located among many urban areas .The first archeological survey in the Golan was made by the German engineer G. Schumacher between 1883 and 1885. Schumacher wrote a book titled “The Golan” in which he classified his discovers from a chronological point of view.
Classification of archeological sites in occupied Golan The most important characteristics of the historical sites of the Golan is their strong link with the consecutive civilizations that flourished in Syria whether chronologically or artistically. They are various, original and present in every part of the Golan.
